Description
Nos 17 and 17a Goring Road are two houses built around 1830-1840. They are constructed in stucco with a painted stone base and feature painted timber eaves with brackets. The roofs are covered with concrete tiles, and there are rebuilt brick chimneys.
No 17 has a formal three-window arrangement, while No 17a to the left has a matching one-window arrangement and a door positioned to the left. Both houses have sixteen-pane hornless sash windows with painted stone sills. The entrance to No 17 features a five-panel central door with a traceried overlight and panelled reveals. It is framed by a large painted timber Doric doorcase, which includes fluted Roman Doric columns and a cornice entablature adorned with triglyphs, paterae, and mutules. There is one dormer window on the left side.
No 17a has a doorway to the left with a similar five-panel door, but it lacks an overlight, resulting in a smaller doorcase with fluted Roman Doric pilasters and a similar frieze, although the cornice is damaged.
Nos 15, 17, and 17a are believed to be of similar construction date, with No 13 being a later matching extension, and No 19 possibly being slightly older.
