Description

The Angel Vaults is a 3-storey inn with a 2-bay painted roughcast front, featuring a plinth and a hipped slate roof, and a chamfered corner on the right. The building has recessed horned sash windows from around 1900, with small-paned upper sashes. The projecting bar-frontage, also from around 1900, has splayed ends and a curved leaded roof over a 1-3-1 bay arrangement, with small-pane glazing in the top lights above frosted bar windows and central double panelled doors. The overlight is framed by brackets and a cornice.

On the right side, there is a raised chimney breast on the first floor and a 20th-century brick stack at the eaves. There is a door and window on the ground floor right, and a window on the first floor right. The left side has a rebate on the right, indicating the front of the original building. At the centre of the first floor, there is a 15th-century window that is square-headed with a moulded sandstone frame and a cusped and sharply-pointed ogee arch, featuring weathered heraldic shields in the spandrels; it was once part-glazed. The top stone is eroded and shows traces of a hoodmould. To the left, there is a pair of casement windows and a sash window on the second floor left. There is a flat-roofed 20th-century addition on the ground floor, which replaced the urinals noted on a map from around 1900, demolished in the early 1980s.

The ground floor has been altered, including a small late 19th-century stair in the southwest corner.
