Description
The General Nott Monument is a Grade II listed structure featuring a bronze statue of Major-General Nott, dressed in contemporary attire with a full-length draped mantle. The figure is posed with the right leg and knee inclined backwards and taut, the right hand resting on the hip, while the left leg is inclined forwards with a bent knee, and the left hand holds the pommel of a sword that touches the base. The statue stands on a silver granite pedestal that has two steps and a stepped plinth. The inscription on the pedestal reads: "Nott Born 20th January 1782. Died 1st January 1845."
The monument is surrounded by cast iron railings set on stone coping. These railings, dating from 1850-1851, feature a diagonal cross design with a central roundel and spikes, along with additional spikes on the top rail. The corners of the railings are marked by cast-iron panelled tapering piers topped with pyramid caps, one of which is inscribed with "T. Jones & Son, Priory Ironworks Carmarthen 1901," indicating a likely repair. Inside the railings, there is also a tablet from 1902 commemorating Dr. Robert Ferrar, Bishop of St David's, who was burnt near this site in 1555.
