Description
The Old Court House is a two-storey building dating from the 19th century. It features a three-window front made of painted rubble and has a slate roof with brick end chimneys, one larger than the other. The upper floor has three squarish four-pane horned sash windows, while the central entrance has a boarded door flanked by rectangular overlights and four-pane hornless sashes. To the left, there is a lower single-storey block constructed with similar materials, also with a slate roof and a brick chimney on the left side. This block includes a large sash window to the left and a panelled door with an overlight to the right, supported by a hood on wooden brackets. The main block has an outshut at the rear, and the lower block features an unusual semi-circular rear extension with two blocked windows and a corrugated roof.
Inside, the building has 19th-century joinery details, but the hewn and pegged roof trusses may suggest an earlier construction date. The main block retains the character of a public house, with a principal parlour and servery located next to the entrance hall and stairwell. There are matchboard partitions with hatches and windows, and a wooden stair. To the left, a room is fitted out as a shop, with wooden shelves and arcading above that separate the semi-circular room, which has plastered walls and two blocked windows, along with wooden counters.
