Description
The Cross Keys is a two-and-a-half storey former inn, constructed of whitened rubble with a slate roof. It features end chimneys, with the right-hand chimney (facing Church Street) being gabled and projecting, topped with slate capping and later flaunching. The entrance originally served the left-hand unit, while the primary entrance on the right-hand side was blocked up in the early 19th century, although its lintel remains visible externally. The entrance has a boarded door, and there are single windows flanking it on each floor. The ground and first floors have recessed 9-pane (horned) sash windows, while the second floor features 6-pane sashes set within catslide dormers, some of which include bullseye panes. Above the first-floor window on the left-hand section, two 19th-century S-shaped tie plates are visible.
Inside, there are two rooms on each floor, characterized by plain beamed ceilings and fireplaces with slatestone lintels. The ground-floor parlour has an early 19th-century boarded door with an elliptical glazed panel. The second floor boasts primary oak floorboards and rough-chamfered purlins.
