Description

Bwthyn is a two-storey terrace of five single-unit cottages located at Nos. 8-12 Church Street in Llandderfel. Each cottage has a single window unit, except for No. 8, which features a two-window unit that provides access to a rear yard. The cottages are constructed from local slatestone rubble with slatestone lintels and have a slate roof that steps up slightly at No. 9 and continues from there. They feature shared rubble chimneys, with an additional end chimney at No. 8, along with weathercoursing and slate cornice bands.

With the exception of No. 8, each unit has an entrance with a single window to either the right or left on both the ground and first floors. The entrance is on the right for all units except No. 11, which has its entrance on the left. The doors are boarded, with Nos. 9 and 12 having glazed panels, while No. 8 has a modern glazed door. Nos. 9 and 12 feature 19th-century nine-pane horned sash windows on both floors, with the first-floor window of No. 12 breaking the eaves and set within a small gabled wooden dormer; this unit is also rendered. No. 8 retains original unhorned twelve-pane sash windows. Nos. 10 and 11 have nine-pane sash windows on the first floor, with larger small-pane windows on the ground floor; No. 11 has a fifteen-pane window, and No. 10 has a twelve-pane window with an inserted narrow eight-pane window immediately to its left. Both Nos. 10 and 11 retain narrow rectangular overlights above their doors, which are original features.

The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
