Description
The lychgate at the Parish Church of St Derfel is a large structure featuring rough-dressed slatestone side walls and a slate roof, adorned with moulded bargeboards and deep verges. It has six steps that curve gently up from the road, with the top step made of stone and the others of cement. The east and west sides, which serve as entrances, have boarded gables above simple canted arches. The roof consists of a single bay with chamfered purlins and re-used early 16th century wall plate sections, which are coved and partly moulded, displaying carved foliate bosses along their length. The lychgate also includes 19th century wooden painted half-gates, featuring two-panel lower sections and diagonally-boarded upper sections with simple decorative ironwork.
