Description

This is a two-storey terrace of five cottages, numbered 8-12 Church Street in Llandderfel. The cottages date from the 19th century and are built of local slatestone rubble with slatestone lintels, under slate roofs. The roofline steps up slightly at number 9, and remains consistent thereafter. Shared rubble chimneys are visible, plus an additional chimney at number 8. The building features weathercoursing and bands of slate as decorative elements. Numbers 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 each contain a single window unit, with the exception of number 8, which has two. Number 8 provides access to a rear yard. The ground floor of each cottage features an entrance on the right, except for number 11, where the entrance is on the left. Doors are boarded, with glazed panels to numbers 9 and 12, and a modern glazed door to number 8. Numbers 9 and 12 have 19th-century nine-pane sash windows (horned) on both floors. The first-floor sash at number 12 breaks the eaves and sits within a small gabled wooden dormer, and both number 12 and the dormer are rendered. Number 8 retains original twelve-pane sashes (unhorned). Numbers 10 and 11 also have nine-pane sashes on their first floors, combined with smaller, multi-pane windows on the ground floor: number 11 features a 15-pane window, and number 10 has a 12-pane window with a smaller, inserted eight-pane window to its left. Both numbers 10 and 11 retain original, narrow rectangular overlights above their doors. The interiors were not inspected during the survey.
