Description
The Railed Family Vault, attached to the Parish Church, is a rectangular enclosure measuring approximately 7 meters by 5 meters. It is surrounded by fine early 19th-century wrought-iron railings that stand 2 meters high. These railings have a square cross-section and feature pointed finials, with scroll-work beneath the top-rail. The posts are thicker and topped with loop-finials that rise to scrolled spear-heads. There are entrances in the center of the north and east sides, with gates designed similarly to the railings, including a scrolled upper panel on the north gate. Both gates are adorned with elaborately scrolled wrought-iron over-arches that rise to highly detailed finials. The base is cemented, and access to the vault is sealed. A datestone from 1815 is set into the adjacent church wall. This elaborate early 19th-century wrought-iron railed vault showcases fine local craftsmanship and is situated in an attractive churchyard setting.
