Description

The War Memorial is a Grade II listed structure, designed as a white marble truncated short obelisk with a draped top. At the base, there is a carved relief featuring oak leaves and a broken cannon. The memorial stands on a coved plinth, which is set atop a square pedestal that rests on a square base.

Inscriptions on the pedestal include 'TO THE GLORY OF GOD', 'IN HONOURED AND LOVING MEMORY OF THE GALLANT MEN OF NEYLAND AND LLANSTADWELL WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-18', and 'AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN, AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM'. The right side of the pedestal lists ten names, while the left side has eleven names, and the rear features twelve names.

The monument is raised on three whitewashed steps, which were likely added later, and there is a sloping tablet in front that partly obscures the inscription on the base of the original memorial. This tablet bears the inscription 'IN MEMORY OF THOSE KNOWN TO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES IN CONNECTION WITH WORLD WAR 2', followed by 38 names. Additionally, it notes 'CIVILIANS KILLED BY ENEMY BOMB IN HAZELBANK', listing four names.
