Description
Pont Newydd Cottage is a mid-19th century cottage located on the Ffynone estate. It is constructed from rubble stone and features a slate roof with barge-boarded eaves and a brick ridge stack. The cottage is one and a half storeys tall and has a cruciform plan, with a single-storey west addition that was added in the 20th century, extending from a northwest lean-to.
The east front of the cottage has a central gable that projects forward, with inset crosses in the flanking walls. The gable is adorned with ornate bargeboards and an apex pendant. On the first floor, there is a two-light small-paned cross-window, while the ground floor features a similar three-light window. Both windows have cambered stone voussoir heads and stone sills. A straight joint to the left of the ground floor suggests that a wider opening was intended.
The south gable, which faces the lake, has similar bargeboards and features a four-pane window on the first floor to the left, with a door beneath a renewed gabled hood below. To the left, there is a lean-to with 20th-century plate-glass glazing. The rear gable also has similar bargeboards, as does the west gable, which includes a four-pane window. The 20th-century addition to the west is made of rubble stone and has a small-paned glazed door flanked by pairs of 12-pane sash windows.
