Description
This is a multi-purpose farm building located at Trefaes Uchaf, built on a sloping site. It features a cart house with a granary above at the uphill (north) end, and a barn with a probable stable at the downhill end. The structure is made of rubble stone and has a slate roof, which was partly missing during the inspection in September 2020. The openings have stone heads.
At the uphill end facing the yard, there is a wide elliptical doorway leading to the cart house, with a small-pane window beneath the eaves. To the right of this doorway is a stone stack, and to the left is a corrugated-iron lean-to that was partially collapsed at the time of inspection. The barn includes a segmental-headed winnowing doorway to the yard, and to the left of this doorway is another doorway flanked by windows, with the left-hand window being an insertion without a lintel, situated below a loft window, all featuring inserted glazing. At the rear (west), the wagon bay has a wide segmental-headed doorway, and further to the right is an opening with inserted glass, although its original cambered stone head is largely missing. Access to the granary is from the uphill (north) gable end, where stone steps with renewed concrete treads lead to a boarded door under a cambered head.
The barn and stable are covered by an 8-bay roof supported by pegged collar-beam trusses. Line shafting is preserved against the east wall, which was powered by a portable engine located in the yard.
