Description
Pont Rhydsaeson is a mid-19th century road bridge that spans a tributary of the River Arth. It is one of three notable masonry bridges located along the B 4337 near Pontrhydsaeson, likely designed by Thomas Penson or his son R. K. Penson.
The bridge features squared rubble stone construction and has a single arch with a small round opening. The arch is accentuated by raised rectangular voussoirs and a prominent keystone. Below the flat parapet, there is a flat raised band topped with squared stone coping. The ends of the bridge curve slightly outward to form raised piers, with a band that extends across these piers.
Pont Rhydsaeson is recognized as part of a distinctive group of high-quality masonry bridges in the area, which also includes Pont Aberarth from 1849, Pont Dyffryn from 1847, Pont Glanbran, and Pont Pennant from 1850.
