Description
Trefaes Uchaf is a farmhouse with colour washed rubble-stone walls and a spar-dashed right-hand gable end, along with a rear wing and outshut. It has a slate roof and stone end stacks. The building features a symmetrical three-bay, two-storey front that faces the road, away from the farmyard, with openings offset to the left. The central doorway is flanked by hornless sash windows, with 12 panes in the lower storey and 9 panes in the upper storey, all having projecting slate cills and cambered heads. The right-hand gable end faces the farmyard and includes a small-pane window in the lower right. A brick porch, which is partly spar-dashed, connects the main range to the added, lower rear wing. This porch has a boarded door and a replacement window in its gable end, with two-pane sash windows in both storeys of the rear wing. The left-hand gable is made of plain stone with an outshut, featuring replacement windows in original openings, which are narrower above.
Inside, the layout remains largely as originally built. The ground floor includes a central hall with rooms on either side and a dog-leg stair with plain balusters and a newel post. The right-hand room has a slate flagstone floor and a fireplace with a mid-20th century tile surround. There are steps leading down to the kitchen in the rear wing, which has a tile floor and an early 20th-century brick range. The interior features late 20th-century fittings and finishes that are generally in poor condition.
