Description

Penarth-Ganol is a farmhouse, likely dating to the 17th century, constructed of whitewashed rubble with a slate roof. The roof features wooden soffits and bargeboards, while rendered chimney stacks are present on both gables and along the ridge, with two broad stacks on the left-hand side (former gable). The main facade has four bays, with the left bay being a later addition. Upper floor windows are four-pane sashes with alternate hornless glazing bars, set within cambered stone voussoired heads; the left bay’s window has a cambered brick head. The ground floor features two small four-pane sashes to the right, with similar stone voussoired heads, and a sixteen-pane horned sash to the left, under a brick cambered head. Slate sills run along the facade, and a high plinth is present at the base.

The left-hand end of the building has two upper windows with cambered brick heads, containing a six-pane horned sash to the left and a four-pane window to the right. The right-hand end features a hornless six-pane sash with a timber lintel above, and a 20th-century window below, set within a cambered stone voussoired head.

A full-length rear outshut is incorporated into the design, with a visible joint mark between the added bay and the original structure. The rear facade includes two four-pane windows with cambered stone voussoired heads on the left, and a nine-pane horned sash with a brick cambered head on the right. A later whitewashed rubble porch, distinguished by its scissor-type bargeboard, provides access to a boarded inner door.

Inside, the centre front room (hall) contains a roughly chamfered cross-beam and a broad fireplace with a stone voussoired head. The kitchen features a wide fireplace with a replaced timber bressumer. A late 19th-century staircase with turned balusters is located off the hall. The roof structure is a simple collar beam design.
