Description

Plas Cefn Gwyn is a two-storey building dating from the early 19th century, featuring colourwashed stucco and a hipped slate roof. The eaves are supported by paired modillion brackets, and there are two rendered stacks on the rear wall along with a half-hipped rear projection. The front has three windows, with hornless sashes on the first floor that include lattice iron glazing bars. The ground floor features French windows and a central door, all with double half-glazed doors, square panels below, and lattice glazing bars above, including overlights.

A verandah wraps around three sides of the building, with canted angles and slim iron columns—ten in total at the front, spaced two on each side of the door and three at the outer angles. There are three similar columns on the end wall verandahs. The end walls have large ground floor sashes with lattice glazing, while the north end has a blank first floor window.

The rear projection has generally 20th-century windows and is two-storey with three bays, although the centre first floor features a lattice-glazed sash. There is one side stack, small windows on the north side, and a low addition to the south.

Inside, the early 19th-century features include an elliptical arch leading to the staircase, which has a moulded rail and stick balusters, along with a similar arch on the landing. The doors are six-panel with reeded doorcases that include roundels, simple cornices, and panelled shutters. There are built-in cupboards or desks, and the northeast room has a later 19th-century fireplace with painted scenes, which was removed from an inn in Talybont. The southeast room has a 20th-century fireplace.
