Description

This chapel, built in the 18th century, was re-built in 1850 and altered in 1864. The main facade is of unpainted render with a slate roof and bracketed eaves. It has a five-bay long front with four arched windows and a central porch with a lunette plaque above, mirroring the fanlights of the windows. The plaque reads 'Salem Adeiladwyd 1824 Ailadeiladwyd 1850 Helaethwyd 1864'. The windows have 18 panes each, with radiating bars at the head. The porch is small, rendered, and has a gabled slate roof and arched entry. A rubble stone right end wall features a ground floor door with stone voussoirs. A boarded opening is present in the gable. The roof verges overhang and are supported by brackets. The rear of the building is two storeys high, constructed of rubble stone with three windows, and features 16-pane sashes with stone voussoirs. The left three bays are spaced more closely than the right bay, suggesting an extension rather than a complete rebuild in 1864. The left end wall is slate hung.

The interior is a large, un-galleried space, with an end-wall pulpit on the right. It features painted, grained box pews; those to the left of the entrance are raked up in 11 steps. The pews are arranged in three blocks. The block to the left of the entrance has eleven raked steps. The pews along the rear wall continue along the rear wall, followed by two large, inward-facing family pews, each with benches on two sides. The central block of pews has benches affixed to the front, while the block along the entrance wall has four pews facing the end wall, followed by two large, inward-facing family pews. A later 19th-century, railed set fawr (a decorative division) features curved angles, turned balusters, and square newels with finials. There is a matching platform with steps up from the front, with serpentine, curving rails on each side of the pulpit front. The front of the pulpit platform has two panels, panelled piers each side, and a bookrest supported on carved brackets. A painted arch is behind the pulpit, featuring marbled reeded pilasters, moulded capitals, and a moulded arch. The ceiling is plain, without a cornice, and contains three small acanthus roundels.
