Description

Gallery 72 is a late Georgian building featuring a three-storey and attic design with a stucco front. It has a tall slate roof with wide bracket eaves and rendered chimney stacks. The flat roof dormer is offset to the right. The building includes small pane sash windows with architraves, lugged on the first floor, and bracket cills on the second floor. The central window is broader and has a detached broad cornice below a blocked central second-floor window.

The Victorian shop front has a blocked entrance that features an overall cornice, fluted pilasters, and fascia ends to the windows, with colonnettes curving into a recessed entrance that includes a patterned ‘doormat’ and a fanlight above a half-glazed door. There is also a blocked entrance to the left with a mutilated doorcase and a modern shop window inserted.

The New Street front is also stucco, three-storey, and has three windows. It features a deep cill band on the first floor over a grooved ground floor that overlaps the corner. There are blocked second-floor windows with architraves and bracket cills, along with one blocked window and two small pane sash glazed windows on the first floor with lugged architraves. The ground floor has a modern entrance and a two-storey entrance extension at the rear.

Inside, the building retains contemporary details such as painted bracket cornices and an acanthus ornamented former main entrance arch.
