Description
The Welsh Cellar is a Georgian building of three storeys, likely dating to the 18th century. It is constructed with a stucco exterior, featuring end pilaster strips, a moulded eaves band, and a sill band on the first floor. The frontages are two windows wide facing Pier Street and three windows wide facing Eastgate. The roof is hipped and covered in slate, with a rubble chimney stack. The recessed sash windows are small-paned and have moulded architraves.
The building has an overall shop front with a ramped fascia. A shop window wraps around the corner, flanked by Ionic pilasters. Similar pilasters also frame the Pier Street entrance, which has panelled reveals, a six-panelled door, and a fanlight. A former entrance on Eastgate Street is now a shop window. The ground floor of the Eastgate Street frontage is partly rusticated.
At the rear, remnants of one of the enclosed courtyards that originally led off Eastgate can be seen. The interior is reported to contain interesting roof construction.
