Description
Cilpyll Farmhouse is a two-storey building constructed from rubble stone, which was originally whitewashed but is now covered with sand-textured paint. It features slate roofs and whitewashed stone end stacks. The eaves are flat boarded and supported by widely spaced pairs of brackets. The facade has a three-window range, with plastic windows that have replaced the original small-paned sashes, and a six-panel door, two of which are glazed. The stone voussoirs and stone sills are notable details, and there is a scratched datestone above the door reading "JM 1768." The end walls are windowless. At the rear, there is a central wing with a porch at the angle and a ledged door, along with a nine-pane fixed window on the ground floor to the left and a 20th-century plastic window above. The northern end features a stone stack, and there is a parallel gabled northeast rear wing with an eastern outshut.
Inside, the central hall includes a broad oak staircase leading to the attic, which has four flights, a closed string, broad rails, and rectangular newels with moulded angles. There is a fielded panelled door under the stairs, as well as fielded-panelled six-panel doors on both the ground and first floors. The rear wing is believed to have a date of 1768 inscribed on the fireplace lintel.
