Description

Pentre Brain is a two-storey house built in 1852, constructed from colourwashed rubble stone with slate roofs and stone end stacks. The main range has three windows, offset to the right, featuring hornless 12-pane sash windows with stone slab lintels and sills. The front door consists of six flush panels and has a traceried overlight above it. A plaque above the door notes that David Walters built the house in 1852. There is a small loft light on the right end wall and a lean-to. At the rear, there are two 16-pane sash windows on the first floor. To the front left, there is a lower service range with a 9-pane sash window in the loft, a 16-pane sash window below, and a door to the right. The left end has a large stone stack, and there are outside stone steps leading to the loft door on the end wall.

The main house features stone external walls and plank partitions in the centre passage and between the front and rear rooms on both floors. The kitchen on the ground floor to the left has large stone flags and a wide fireplace, while the parlour to the right includes a marble fireplace. The doors on the ground floor are six-panel doors, and the rooms at the rear are narrow. The stair has boarded panelling and stick balusters leading to the loft stairs. The upstairs doors are plank and not panelled, and the roof has collar trusses that are partly re-used.

The service wing contains three heavy beams, and the upper floor is accessed only from the outside stairs.
