Description
Tiled House is a 1-storey and attic building constructed from rubble stone, featuring some later alterations. There is a slightly lower range off axis to the left and three irregularly-spaced windows. The original stone tiles have been replaced with slate roofs, and there is a central rubble stack that has been heightened in brick, supported by an approximately 5-foot wide cross-wall that projects to the rear. The roof pitches vary, with the steepest section at the center, a continuous ridge to the right, a flatter pitch at the front, and a steeper pitch at the rear. There is a single flat-roofed dormer at the center front and two at the rear pitch, along with pitched roof dormers on the right, at both the front and rear pitches.
Originally designed as a 'lobby entry' house, it has a blocked door and a small lobby beside the stack, with stairs opposite and a hall to the right. The main entrance is now located in the left extension, and there is another boarded door under a pitched roof porch to the right, leading to a part of the house that is now disused and in poor condition. The left side features a rubble gable and wall, while the right gable end wall is timber studded, adjoining a later two-bay barn with a corrugated iron roof. The barn retains wattle and daub, and carpenter's marks are visible.
Tiled House was once part of the Gwernaffed estate. Inside, the building retains a feather-stop chamfer beam in the ground floor right room, with rougher beams throughout the rest of the house.
