Description

Gwynus is a building constructed of stone and roughcast, topped with a slate roof and featuring gable stacks. It has two storeys, a cellar, and an attic, with three small raised gabled dormers. The main facade faces southeast and consists of three window bays. There is a deeply inset door located approximately at the center, flanked by small 4-pane horned sash windows that have been renewed, with the left window now filled in. Each bay on the first floor has one window, with the rendering slightly projecting to form a canopy over each. The three flush gabled dormers each contain a small square 4-pane window. The entrance includes a transom light with small panes. At the rear, a two-storey gabled projection provides external access to the cellar from ground level, and there is also a single-storey service range at the northeast corner.

Inside, the front door opens into a stair hall. The major parlour is located at the left end, while the living kitchen is at the right (north) end, featuring a large open fireplace with a chamfered fire lintel set behind an early 19th-century surround. There are remnants of cupboards and an oven within the kitchen. The major cross floor beams are slightly chamfered, and there is a 19th-century stair. A stair beside the north fireplace, which is no longer visible at ground floor level, leads up to the attic. The roof consists of five bays, divided by trusses with tapered principals, and the high-set collars are mortised and pegged. A datestone, reported by RCAHM in 1964 but now concealed, was recorded as reading LL / HS / R(?) MAS / YEAR OF OUR LORD 1719. The attic floor is made of lime-ash, which is unusual for North Wales. The rear wing has an external door that opens into a lobby, which is separated from the kitchen by a settle. There is also a back-to-back fireplace with a laundry/service room located at the rear.
