Description
The gates, gate piers, and boundary walls for Nos 1-4 Clive Place are made of roughly tooled stone and feature cast-iron gates. Originally, there were gates on either side of each building, but only a single gate remains at No 4. The gates for Nos 3 and 4 have quadrant-shaped struts and twisted crowning motifs, while the gates for Nos 1 and 2 are simpler in design. A low wall made of local granite, topped with hedges, marks the boundary with the street. Brick walls with curved stone copings separate the front gardens, and a roughly coursed and squared rubble wall forms the western boundary of the garden at No 1. This set of gates and walls is considered an almost complete set of street furniture that is contemporary with the houses, making it an important part of the group.
