Description

This listing describes three gatepiers and boundary walls associated with properties on Silver Street in Wiveliscombe, dating from the mid-19th century. The walls are made of roughly coursed red sandstone, featuring punched dressings and coping. There are two square gatepiers leading to the yard of No 5, and a third gatepier marks the entry beside it to Nos 7 and 9. The boundary wall of No 11 along Silver Street has a depressed triangular opening and is approximately 3 meters ramped down to the gatepier. The east boundary wall of No 5 and the west wall of No 11 form a winding drive, with the latter continuing as part of the garden wall of No 9, which includes a pointed arch doorway. These walls originally served as the carriage entrance to the rear of Nos 7 and 9 Silver Street.
