Description
6 Market Street is a three-storey building that originally served as a shop and house, featuring three windows. The ground floor is made of local brick that is a deeper red, while the upper floors are a more brownish hue. The building has a slate roof and brick chimneys, with eaves supported by paired brackets.
The top floor now has four windows. The first, third, and fourth windows from the left are nine-pane hornless sashes with gauged brick voussoir lintels and heavy stone sills. The second window from the left is a later insertion that matches the scale and glazing of the originals, featuring a deep sill but lacking a lintel. The first floor contains three twelve-pane hornless sash windows, also with gauged brick voussoir lintels and heavy stone sills.
On the ground floor, there is a late 19th-century shopfront. It includes a door with a rectangular overlight and a shop window to the left, with panelled stall risers. The ends of the shopfront feature classically-derived pilasters that support volutes and gabled fascia ends, with a deep fascia board displaying the inscription 'Gwalia Stores' in gold lettering. To the right of the shopfront is a doorway with an early 19th-century type doorcase that has panelled jambs. To the left of the shopfront is another doorway with a shallow doorcase and simple panelled jambs, followed by a window that matches those on the first floor.
