Description

4 Market Street is a three-storey building that originally featured three windows and served as both a shop and a house. The ground floor is constructed of local brick in a deeper red, while the upper floors are a browner hue, with slate roofing and brick chimneys. The eaves are adorned with paired brackets.

The top floor now has four windows; the first, third, and fourth from the left are nine-pane hornless sash windows with gauged brick voussoir lintels and heavy stone sills. The second window from the left is a later addition that matches the scale and glazing of the original windows but has a deep sill and no lintel. The first floor contains three twelve-pane hornless sash windows, also featuring gauged brick voussoir lintels and heavy stone sills.

On the ground floor, there is a late 19th-century shopfront. This includes a door with a rectangular overlight and a shop window to the left, along with panelled stall risers. The ends of the shopfront are supported by classical-style pilasters that feature volutes and gabled fascia ends, with a deep fascia board displaying the inscription 'Gwalia Stores' in gold lettering. To the right of the shopfront is a doorway with an early 19th-century style doorcase that has panelled jambs. To the left of the shopfront is another doorway with a shallow doorcase and simple panelled jambs, followed by a window that matches those on the first floor.
