Description

Magor Post Office is a broad two-storey building from the 19th century, featuring a three-window façade made of rendered rubble and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has renewed brick stacks at each end. The first floor showcases three 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor retains one 16-pane sash window next to a six-panelled door. To the left, there is a modern door flanked by modern shop windows. The rear right has an outshut with a catslide roof, and there is a blocked door in the rear passage.

Inside the shop, the low planked ceiling has encased cross beams and a flagged floor. To the right, separated by a timber-framed partition with brick infill, is a large open fireplace featuring a chamfered timber lintel and chamfered stone jambs, along with chamfered and stopped cross beams. An early 19th-century window in this area has matching shutters. The hall, created in the early 19th century, includes an open string staircase with decorative tread ends, stick balusters, and a handrail. The first floor also has chamfered cross beams and was remodeled in the early 19th century with a landing, doors, and doorcases. The attic storey features four heavy A-frame trusses with pegged tie beams and three rows of trenched purlins, along with studded partitions, including one with lath and plaster.
