Description
20 High Street is a well-detailed early 18th century town house that is part of a block of three houses developed by the Powis estate around 1740, previously known as Plas Goch. The exterior features painted brick on the front elevation and a rebuilt upper gable end, topped with a slate roof and end wall stacks. The building has two storeys with an attic within the roof and a four-window range, with the entrance located to the left of centre. This entrance includes a pedimented doorcase with foliate scrolled brackets supporting the hood and a six-panelled door. The windows are flush-framed 12-pane sashes with cambered brick heads. There are also two dormer windows, each with two lights and shallow leaded roofs. The rear elevation has tall camber-headed windows with cast-iron casements and transoms, along with a doorway that has been reduced in height. This house is particularly significant as part of a larger development.
