Description

Haulfre Cottage and Shop, known as 'Dragons', is a two-storey building with an L-shaped plan, dating from the 19th century. The cottage forms the main part of the structure on the right, while the shop features an advanced gable on the left, facing Market Street across from Church Street. This building has group value as it serves as an important visual endpoint to the north of Church Street.

The house is set behind a small front garden, and the shop has a prominent gable at the front. Both sections are constructed from informally coursed local shaley stone and are topped with a slate roof, featuring a tile ridge, a brick mid-chimney, and timber bargeboards.

The house has horned four-pane sash windows of equal size, arranged symmetrically above and below, with black-painted exposed frames, timber lintels, and stone sills. There is a modern central semi-glazed door that also has a timber lintel. The shop has a similar window in the gable above and a modern combined door and shop window. On the left side facing Waterfall Street, there are two similar windows, with the lower one being slightly smaller. The rear extension of the shop has modern windows.

At the front of the house, there is an iron gate and railings with black-painted stone piers and a stone plinth wall. The public footpath in front of both the house and shop retains its original stone pitching, and there is a small area of cobbles in front of the rear extension of the shop facing Waterfall Street. The interior has not been seen.
