Description
The lychgate of St Melangell's Church is constructed from uncoursed local slate masonry. It features front and rear arches that are rounded, with corbelling on each side and a short lintel. The front opening has cyclopean jambs, while there is one upright jamb at the rear. The structure has oak rafters and a slate roof with a tile ridge, and both gables are topped with slate coping that rests on roughly corbelled kneelers. Inside, there are slate side benches and corbelled shelves at the top of the walls. Decorative iron gates are present at the inner archway only. A recent slate plaque on the front gable conceals the point where stones for the St Melangell shrine were recovered.
