Description
The lychgate at the Church of St Mary is constructed from neatly squared stone and features a slate roof that is gabled at both the front and rear, with gables that accommodate the irregular thick slate roof coverings. It has ogee and cavetto kneelers. The entrance front showcases a segmental arch made of shaped voussoirs, accompanied by a chamfered hood moulding. Above the arch, there is a decorative feature, likely from the 17th century, which consists of a shaped stone lintel with two slight arches on its underside and a raised central keystone that displays the face of an angel, whose head is set in a curved recessed halo. There are stone seats on either side of the entrance, and the inner arch is similar in design but less finely finished. The lychgate is also fitted with iron gates. Inside, there is an open raftered roof supported by a single tier of purlins.
