Description
The lychgate at the Church of St Melyd is a timber-framed structure built on high stone side walls. It features a slate roof with gables at the front and rear, prominent carved bargeboards, and small finials. The walls are made of axe-dressed stone and are connected to the rubble masonry churchyard wall.
The central timber frame includes a tie beam and cusped braces above. The timber framing on either side of the walls is designed in six panels, with braces at the top of two of the studs. The main posts at the front and rear have curved braces supporting the tie beams. Above the tie beam, the gables are vertically studded. The front tie beam is carved with the wording 'Church of St Melyd' in raised letters, which is painted white. The original gates feature a midrail and a down-curved toprail, with iron trefoil cresting on both rails.
