Description
Clive Engine House, located at Talargoch Mine, is a large Cornish engine house measuring approximately 13 meters by 11 meters. It is constructed from axe-dressed uncoursed limestone masonry, featuring ashlar arches at its openings. The building has a slate roof adorned with a decorative wooden finial at the north apex, while a similar finial at the south apex has recently been lost. The roof consists of four bays supported by king-post trusses, and the north wall above the tie-beam level is weatherboarded.
To the north, the bob-wall is about 2 meters thick and rises to approximately 6 meters below the roof level, with an arched opening at ground level. Beneath this opening, there is another opening at basement level that faces a very large circular shaft lined with brick and stone.
The west wall features four windows with low segmental arches. The east side is covered in ivy but includes a small opening at a high level. On the south side, there is a large central arched opening at ground level, above which are two beam bearings and a smaller central arched opening.
