Description

Tyn-y-Cablyd is a stone farmhouse that is oriented roughly north-south, with its southern end built into the hillside. It features a restored graded random slate roof with a prominent overhang, a tall central stone chimney, and a smaller stone chimney at the lower gable end. There is a slight difference in ridge height on either side of the main chimney. The east front has a roughly central gabled porch, with the wall to the right set slightly back, and a boarded door topped with a gabled hood. There are two mullion-and-transom windows on each side of the doorway, as well as mullion windows at the rear and in the gable ends. A gabled dormer with a mullion window is located to the right, with a similar restored dormer to the left.

At the rear, the roof slopes down to a low-pitched lean-to, which was formerly a wash-house and now connects the house with other buildings in the group. There is a small in-roof dormer with a catslide roof that lights the upper storey. To the right, there is a low monopitch outbuilding that is positioned at right angles to the farmhouse.

The entrance is from the east side, leading into a lobby with two ground floor rooms on either side of the chimney. To the south, the former dairy, which may have originally been the parlour, is separated from the living room (a two-bay hall) by a restored post-and-panel partition that includes a restored doorway to the east. The living room features a wide fireplace, heavy chamfered beams, and stop-chamfered joists. To the north of the chimney, the parlour and service room are located side by side. The parlour, situated to the east, has a large axial beam and is separated from the service room by an axial partition. The roof includes restored straight wind-braces, and much of the original roof structure remains intact.
