Description
Old Nant-ewyn is a single-bay cottage built from poorly mortared and uncoursed rubble masonry, topped with a slate roof and a tile ridge. It features a single end-chimney and faces south. There is a small oven extension at the north-west corner, which is covered by a continuation of the rear roof slope. The front has only a few openings: a boarded door on the left made from timber framing and a two-light window that has shutters and exterior slats.
To the right of the cottage, there are two pigsties constructed from similar materials, with the rear slope of their roof connecting to that of the house. The pigsties have slate pen walls and upright timber gate posts. A small privy is located detached to the south of the cottage.
Inside, the cottage is plain, lacking plaster or a ceiling, and has a floor made of slate flagstones. There is a fireplace on the left (west) side, featuring a massive oak bressummer, and a small oven is built into the side of the fireplace, extending out through the rear wall. The walls have been raised to the level of the wallplates at both the front and rear, and the replaced roof is supported by two sawn purlins.
