Description

Abel House is a 19th-century building with scribed rendered elevations and painted quoins. It features a brick dentil eaves course along the High Street, a slate roof, a tall yellow brick chimney on the left, and a red brick chimney on the right. The High Street elevation has three storeys and four windows. The right bay, which is Abel House, includes an eight-pane sash window on the second floor and a sixteen-pane sash window on the first floor. The other properties have larger three-light casement windows on the second floor and casement windows with nine large panes on the first floor, as seen in a photograph from around 1905. On the ground floor to the left, there is a window matching the first floor and a doorway with an early 19th-century doorcase and a six-panelled door. Next to it is a similar window and doorway, followed by a broader 19th-century shop window, a doorway with a six-panelled door, and a broad window from the early 20th century.

The elevation facing Brook Street features two gables, with two second floor windows having sixteen-pane sashes and two first floor windows also with sixteen-pane sashes. On the ground floor to the left, there is a doorway with a hood (which was moved to this position in the early 20th century) and a shop window at the front. To the right, there is an early 19th-century doorcase and a blocked window. The ground floors have heavy longitudinal beams and some exposed timber partitions.
