Description

5 Penybryn is a two-storey building with attics, featuring a front made of Llanfyllin brick and a stringcourse separating the first and second storeys. The roof is slate, with a central square brick chimney and a rectangular brick chimney to the left. There are four gabled dormers that are timber-framed with brick nogging, curved struts over collars, tripartite casement glazing, and 19th-century bargeboards and pinnacles, with the sides hung in slate.

On the first floor, there are six bays; the third bay from the left has a blocked window, while the other bays have casement windows set under wooden lintels, with the left window being narrower than the others. On the ground floor, the second and fifth bays are doorways with segmentally arched heads, wooden door frames, and boarded doors. The left bay features a broad segmental archway with glazing infill, while the other bays have segmentally arched windows, with the third bay blocked and the others having six-pane hornless glazing.

The left gable end has a projecting chimney with a stone base, and there is a twelve-pane sash window on each side of the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a rectangular casement window on each side of the stack.

Inside, the ground floor of the left premises includes a large fireplace and exposed timber-framed partitions. The first floor rear is said to have heavy timber-framing with signs of former windbraces, and the south gable features decorative lattice framing in the apex.
