Description
Lower Cross Keys Public House is a two-storey building with three gables facing the road, and its main range runs parallel to the road. The front is made of local brick, which is painted, and it has a slate roof with a yellow brick chimney positioned forward of the ridge. Each gable features a small pane casement window with a camber head on the upper floor.
On the ground floor, to the left, there is a broad tripartite casement window with a cambered head. To the right of this window is an entrance doorway, which has a doorcase topped with a steeply-pitched triangular pediment and a finial. Next to the doorway, there is another broad tripartite casement window with a cambered head, followed by a small casement window with a cambered head. Further to the right, there is another doorway with a cambered head. Above the cart entrance on the right, there is a single casement window, and the cart entrance itself features exposed beams.
At the rear, there is a long range that runs at right angles, constructed of brick. Inside, the bar area in the central gable showcases exposed chamfered beams and joists. A room in the right gable was undergoing rebuilding at the time of inspection but also contained similar architectural fragments.
