Description
This is a group of six two-storey dwellings forming a symmetrical terrace, built in the 18th century. The buildings are constructed with Flemish bond brickwork, featuring rock-faced quoins, and have slate roofs. Heavy stone lintels and sills frame the openings, and the gables incorporate stone kneelers and coping with finials. The end houses are designed with ‘L’ and ‘T’ shaped plans, with projecting wings that create a forecourt, enclosing the four central cottages. These central cottages are each two bays wide, with a lateral stair hall and front and back rooms. The original boarded doors have applied moulded strips and plain overlights, though two have been replaced. Windows are 16-pane sashes. The end houses mirror the window and door arrangement. Brick stacks are present.
Each house has a brick walled garden in front, with walls generally ten courses high and rounded at the entrances. The end houses have higher garden walls, 14½ courses high, with well-rounded corners. At the rear, some garden walls have been painted, and the rear extension to No. 4 is a two-storey structure from the 20th century. Behind the houses, continuously coped brick walls enclose service yards, with openings leading to a service road. These yards feature brick outhouses built on and parallel to the wall.
