Description
Castle Cottage is a two-unit timber-framed cottage or small house, positioned end-on to the road, with its front elevation facing a garden to the southeast. The cottage features irregular framing at the front, which becomes more regular at the rear. The lighter timbering in the top panels at both the front and rear suggests that the eaves have been raised. The west gable wall is made of brick and includes a small central porch, while the east gable is constructed of stone and brick, with a walled-up door position. The cottage has a slate roof with brick end chimneys. The front windows are arranged irregularly, with two small pane windows above and three below; the window on the right appears to have replaced a door, and there is another lost door position indicated on the left side of the front elevation. At the rear, there are two large ground floor windows and two smaller upper windows, which have modern timber casements.
Inside, the cottage is divided unevenly into two parts by a fine post and panel partition, featuring chamfered arrisses on its east face. Two doors suggest that the smaller unit to the west was likely composed of two rooms.
