Description
Bryncynfelin Farmhouse is a farmhouse located slightly downslope to the south of its farmyard. It features a main range that runs north to south and a cross-range at the lower end. The east face of the main range and part of the north face of the cross-range are constructed with timber framing in square panels, which are painted black and white. The east face of the cross-range is made of handmade brickwork, also painted white. The other sides of the house have been rebuilt or added and are rendered and painted white. The roofs are covered with slate and have tile ridges, with end and mid chimneys featuring brick stacks on the main range.
On the east face of the main range, there are two upper and two lower modern windows that respect the timber framing panels. The east-facing gable end of the cross-range is made of brickwork and includes a dentil string course at first floor height, along with two decorative lozenges in the gable apex. There is a door on the left with a simple open brick porch, and windows above and below on the right that are nearly aligned, all situated beneath earlier brick arches. The ground storey window is slightly wider than the earlier window opening.
The left part of the north face of the cross-range has a single window above and below, which are not aligned. These are also of modern type but fit within the existing panels. This elevation has been extended to the right and features a large modern entrance porch.
Inside, the house retains a fine post-and-panel partition to the south with two doorways, along with traces of what may have been former partitioning of the inner bay into two rooms. The posts have moulded edges, and there is a box-framed partition above. Additionally, there are two impressive cruck timbers, about 600 millimeters thick at the widest point, with an inaccessible apex detail and a braced collar beam. Both frames have extra timbering to accommodate the later heightened eaves.
