Description

Ty-coch is a three-bay cruck house that runs from north-west to south-east, situated on a level site. The most notable exterior feature is the impressive timber framing visible on the south-east gable, which consists of five panels high between large crucks, each about 600 mm wide, with V struts and a small yoke at the top. The rear gable, facing north-west, is box framed but is hidden behind modern cladding. The south-west side wall has been rebuilt in stone or brick and rendered, while the north-east side features a large stone wing that has been extended at the rear. Timber framing is also present in part of the porch added to the south-west side, which is mainly rendered, and at the back of the north-east extension.

The house has slate roofs with tile ridges and brick chimney stacks, including the main chimney located between the south-east and middle bays of the main range, as well as a corner stack at the west corner. There is a small rooflight discreetly placed on the east side of the main range.

The property has been restored and features small-pane timber windows throughout. The main gable on the south-east has two upper windows and one lower window, while the south-west elevation includes two dormer windows and three lower windows.

Internally, the house has a three-bay hall plan with an inserted chimney to the south of the middle bay and a post and panel type partitioning the north bay. The original entrance locations are not clear. The cross-beam to the north of the hall is approximately 300 mm from the screen. There are three complete pairs of fine crucks, and the upper timbering of the north-west box-framed gable is only visible from the inside, featuring close diagonal bracing above the tie beam level.
