Description
Maes-y-llan is a 1½-storey, three-window house exhibiting strong architectural character, facing south onto a lawn. The original three-bay section lies to the left and is clearly distinguished by a central, advanced, two-storey porch bay. A later addition is situated to the right, built in a related style. The front and left gable end are constructed in yellow Flemish-bond brick, although part of the gable end is slate-hung. A north-east rear wing of 1½ storeys is built in uncoursed stone. The roof is covered in small slates with lacing in the valleys, features coped gables, and has chimneys at the left end and rear with paired octagonal stacks. The windows are predominantly four-pane sashes on the upper level, and two-light mullion and transom windows on the lower level. A semi-glazed door is set within an open, Tudor-arched porch, and a two-light mullion window is positioned above. The window surrounds are moulded in brick, with flat arches and stone sills; the lower windows have Tudor label moulds.
Significant alterations have occurred at the rear, incorporating brickwork, rendered surfaces (scored to mimic stone courses), and stone. A later two-storey rear wing in the north-west corner is also faced in yellow brick, but in stretcher bond, and is likely cavity walled; this section has a roof of large slates and a chimney with paired octagonal stacks in grey bricks. An early 20th-century addition, situated at the east end, is also constructed from yellow brick. It features a two-storey bay window with three-light mullion and transom windows above and below.
The rear windows consist mainly of four-pane sash windows, with a mullion window and a mullion and transom window on the original east side elevation; a modern door is located to the west. The interior of the property has not been inspected.
