Description
8 and 9 Commercial Street in Penygloddga, Newtown, are three-storey buildings that form a mirrored pair, constructed of roughcast brick. They feature a gently pitched slate roof, which has been newly added to No 8. The buildings have a saw-toothed eaves cornice, plain bargeboards, and a central brick chimney stack. The second floor of both buildings has shallow 8-pane hopper windows, while No 9 retains original 16-pane sash windows on the first and ground floors, whereas No 8 has modern windows. The buildings also have modern cement architraves and stone sills. Notably, there is a small lead-camed window with bulls-eye glass on the second floor rear of No 9. The original doorcase of No 9 features a bracketed, leaded drip-board and an original six-panel door, while No 8 has a modern door. Both buildings have reflected staircases with plain iron handrails leading up to their doorways.
