Description
Martin Harris (Butcher) is a three-storey terrace building with a cellar, located at 44 and 45 Commercial Street and 8 Chapel Street in Penygloddfa, Newtown. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a gently pitched slate roof that has a hip on Chapel Street. It has a saw-toothed eaves cornice and brick stacks.
The second floor has eight-pane hopper windows, while the first floor has 16-pane sash windows, and the ground floor of No 44 features plain reveals, stone sills, and gauged brick voussoirs. No 45 has modern windows. The original doorcases are present at Nos 44, 45, and 8 Chapel Street, with a six-panel door at No 44. The butcher's shopfront from the 19th century includes a four-pane sash window on the right and plate glass on the left, with a recessed central doorway and a half-glazed door. There are brackets supporting the cornice with a name-board above, and a round-arched tunnel passage is located at the extreme right.
The elevation facing Chapel Street has been significantly altered due to the addition of modern windows.
