Description
45 Commercial Street is a three-storey terrace building with a cellar, located in Penygloddfa, Newtown. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a gently pitched slate roof that has a hip facing Chapel Street. The building has a saw-toothed eaves cornice and brick stacks. The second floor has eight-pane hopper windows, while the first floor includes 16-pane sash windows, and the ground floor of No 44 has similar sashes. The windows have plain reveals, stone sills, and gauged brick voussoirs. No 45 has modern windows. The original doorcases are present at Nos 44, 45, and No 8 Chapel Street, with a six-panel door at No 44. There is a 19th-century shopfront for the butcher's, featuring a four-pane sash window to the right and plate glass to the left, along with a recessed centre doorway that has a half-glazed door. Brackets support the cornice, which has a name-board above it. A round-arched tunnel passage is located at the extreme right. The elevation facing Chapel Street has been significantly altered due to the addition of modern windows.
