Description

48-51 Commercial Street, Penygloddfa, Newtown, comprises a three-storey building with a cellar and five windows. Originally, numbers 48 and 51 were back-to-backs. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick with gently pitched slate roofs and a saw-toothed eaves cornice. Brick stacks are present. The former weaving lofts have shallow two-light casements, while numbers 48 and 50 feature small-paned iron opening lights. Cambered header arches define the first and ground floor windows. Number 48 has small-paned iron lights within timber cross windows, number 49 has timber cross windows, number 50 has Victorian sash windows, and number 51 has modern windows. Doorcases feature leaded dripboards on brackets, and the original six-panel doors remain. A central, round-arched tunnel passage once provided access to Spinner's Court.
