Description
52 and 53 Commercial Street in Penygloddfa, Newtown, is a three-storey building with a cellar and four windows. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a gently pitched slate roof, which is original on No 53. The building has a saw-toothed eaves cornice and a brick stack.
Both properties have two-light casements that retain iron tie bars for lead cames, specifically for the weaving loft. No 53 still has lead cames on the cross windows located on the first floor. The ground floor of No 53 includes a later 19th-century two-light shop window, while No 52 has modern windows.
The original doorcases are adorned with simple leaded dripboards supported by brackets, and No 53 features an original six-panel door. There was a tunnel passage that previously provided access to Pump Court. Additionally, No 53 retains casements at the rear with cambered header arches.
