Description
51 Commercial Street is a three-storey building with a cellar, featuring five windows. It was originally two back-to-back properties, Nos 48 and 51. The structure is built of Flemish bond brick and has gently pitched slate roofs with a saw-toothed eaves cornice and brick stacks. The former weaving lofts have shallow two-light casements, while Nos 48 and 50 have small paned iron opening lights. The windows on the first and ground floors have cambered header arches. No 48 features small paned iron lights in timber cross windows, No 49 has timber cross windows, No 50 has Victorian sash windows, and No 51 has modern windows. The doorcases are adorned with leaded dripboards on brackets, and the original doors are six-panel. A central round-arched tunnel passage once provided access to Spinner's Court.
